The alternative rock band SIMM from New York is releasing their debut EP, Rotating Mustache Friday October 10th and they have proven that rock is still alive and evolving!
This is a record that captures raw modern rock with an early to mid 2000’s feel. Each of the members are heavily influenced from various different genres such as punk, alternative and classic rock. Releasing 3 never before heard songs, it’s a breath of fresh air featuring new music, unique riffs and layers of emotion through songwriting that anybody could relate to.

The Meaning Behind The Music
Nick says they didn’t collectively sit down with the goal to release an album. They have had a large collection of songs they wanted to share while the first 3 tracks Human Events, Phantoms and ATM were already released as singles. He said they enjoyed naturally creating “kick you in the face rock music and sad songs that people can relate to.”
I had the chance to sit down with lead singer Nick Phaneuf from the band and talk about finally releasing the EP to the world. Representing growth, evolution, change, heartbreak and moving forward.
Most of these songs were written during some of the most painful and challenging times of his life. Expressing negative emotions through songwriting has always been therapeutic for him and so many people are able to relate. “I like people putting their own meaning to my songs and not telling them what to feel.” Whatever people feel listening to this album, he enjoys when people attach what purpose relates to them through his music.
The Creative and Recording Process
In terms of the creative songwriting process, Nick is responsible for the lyrics while it varies for the melodies. He didn’t have experience recording music professionally and learned a lot by time it was time for the final recording. After learning the process, he became a better musician and learned to write for recording instead of writing for live shows.
After the release of Rotating Mustache, their goal is to play shows and hopefully be back into the studio by December January to record more music. They have a bunch ready to go and want to release more and film more music videos and content.
